WisCARES is a veterinary and social service organization dedicated to protecting the human-animal bond within vulnerable populations. They provide veterinary medical care, access to ancillary social and health services, education, social support, and community space. Through a one-health framework, WisCARES acknowledges and leverages the relationship between people, pets, and communities. They also offer quality training and research opportunities for students of veterinary medicine and other participating disciplines, promoting interdisciplinary relationships and collaboration. Their goal is to ensure that all pets and families in Dane County have equal and consistent access to veterinary medical care, social support, and human health services. WisCARES offers free and subsidized veterinary care for homeless and low-income individuals who own pets, as well as extended social service help for homeless families. They provide walk-in hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, appointments on Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and surgery on Thursdays.
