Seattle food entrepreneur Kurt Beecher Dammeier founded the Beecher’s Flagship Foundation in 2006 to support youth food education programs. Disappointed by the lack of comprehensive food education in schools, the Foundation developed the Pure Food Kids Workshop in collaboration with experts at Washington State University. The workshop, which is now part of the Pure Food Kids Foundation, offers learning-standards-based curricula free to schools and has been highly sought after by both public and private schools. The initiative focuses on reaching elementary students with marketing, label reading, and cooking education and continues to support hundreds of schools in the Seattle and New York City metro areas. The program aims to empower kids to make healthy food choices for life.
