DC Public Opera is a new, alternative opera company in the Nation's Capitol, dedicated to presenting relevant, engaging performances that reflect a 21st-century perspective. The company aims to bring opera out of traditional opera houses and into spaces more immediate to their audiences, including historical sites, museums, and public spaces. They also integrate community service with their performances by partnering with other charities. The 2014 season features productions of Mozart's Don Giovanni and a staged performance of Franz Schubert's Goethe-Lieder, showcasing opera for the 21st century.
