Creative Audio Archive

The Creative Audio Archive (CAA) was established by the Experimental Sound Studio (ESS) in response to concerns about the preservation of non-mainstream audio, particularly related to avant-garde and exploratory sound and music of the last five decades. CAA aims to safeguard and transfer volatile materials to stable media, catalog and cross-reference them, and make them accessible for study and potential public presentation. It seeks to bring together existing collections and preserve them as autonomous "sub-archives" within the larger initiative. ESS, a non-profit organization, founded in 1986, focuses on the production, promotion, and preservation of innovative approaches to the sonic arts, making it a fitting host for CAA.
