The Boston Parks and Recreation Department oversees the maintenance and development of over 2,300 acres of park land in Boston, including 217 city parks, playgrounds, and athletic fields, as well as golf courses, squares, fountains, game courts, cemeteries, urban wilds, and more. The department also manages approximately 125,000 trees, including the historic Emerald Necklace, and more than 35,000 street trees, ensuring clean, green, safe, and accessible open spaces for the community.
