Black Eye

Black Eye is a multigenerational exhibition exploring the 21st century black identity experience and the shifting dynamics of race over the last 20 years. It focuses on the new idealism of the millennial mindset and the definition of "self" as a limitless, layered, and wonderfully fragmented whole. The show highlights gender, sexuality, transculturalism, and political proclamation as more fitting identifiers of self than the color of one's skin. Black Eye also explores contemporary notions of blackness through the minds of the world's leading black artists, using the Obama era as a touchstone. The exhibition aims to describe a social utopia where race occupies a less tempestuous mental turf and operates as an archaic binary.
