The Billion Dollar Green Challenge, a flagship project of the Sustainable Endowments Institute, invites colleges, universities, and other nonprofits to invest a total of $1 billion in self-managed green revolving funds to finance energy efficiency upgrades. The Challenge is inspired by the exceptional performance of existing green revolving funds, with a median annual return on investment of 32%. This initiative is creating green jobs in campus communities and lowering operating costs on college and university campuses. Forty-six institutions, including the University of Vermont, Harvard, and Arizona State University, have already committed to invest a cumulative total of more than $75 million in green revolving funds.
