Project Conserve is an AmeriCorps program that places members in service with organizations in the southern Blue Ridge Mountain region to protect natural resources. Members serve in conservation education, volunteer recruitment, land conservation, and water quality protection. They serve 1700 hours during an 11-month term, promoting conservation through education, volunteerism, and direct service. Trainings cover topics such as conflict resolution, forest management, and disaster preparedness. The program is committed to long-term conservation efforts in North Carolina’s mountains and is supported by grants from the North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service and the Corporation for National and Community Service. The mission is to build stronger, more educated and involved communities that understand environmental threats and take direct conservation action.
